Beside providing services we tend to educate our customers as well. At AbacusHosting.ca we want our customers to know and understand what services we provide. We have selected freequently asked questions, terms and their meanings used in today's high tech hosting world. If your task is to work on a new hosting project then you will find these terms very helpful. (Sorted alphabetically)
How long does it take to process and set up my hosting account?
Normally, if all of your billing information is in order, we setup hosting accounts within 24 hours. In the case that you don't receive an email within 1 Business day, please send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What control panel is offered with your hosting and how do I access it?
All web sites come equipped with CPANEL, to access it simply open https://www.yoursite.com/cpanel and replace "yoursite.com" with your domain name.
What TPL domain names are supported by AbacusHosting.ca?
We support (host) all the standard domain name suffixes, including .org, .info, .cc!
I have been notified that my account has been set up but my web site is still inactive.
If you have received a notification e-mail and it's been over 48 working hours, it means either that you did not point your domain name to the right DNS servers, or that your ISP's DNS server has not yet been updated. It generally takes 24 hours for domain names to become active. This is just the way Internet works; there is no way we can speed up the updating process.
I have NOT been notified that my account has been set up and its been over 24 hours.
This could be caused by a provisioning error. If you have not received any e-mails from us with a few hours of ordering please contact us by e-mail or over the phone.
Can I get a dedicated IP and do I need one?
Yes, you can get dedicated IP address. You would need dedicated IP if you want to setup SSL web site.
Does e-mail or FTP count against my bandwidth limit?
Yes. All FTP and incoming/outgoing e-mail traffic counts against your total bandwidth allocation.
What happens if I exceed my allocated bandwidth?
You will receive an automatic e-mail message warning you that you have reached 80% of your contracted limit. This should give you plenty of time to contact AbacusHosting.ca and purchase more bandwidth. Once you have exceeded your limit, your account is suspended for the rest of the current month.
Do you support mySQL?
Yes. We run mySQL server version 4.xx.
How can I edit a mySQL database table without creating an application?
Cpanel provides very handy phpMyAdmin to edit mySQL tables through the use of SQL query language or using your mouse and keyboard to edit databases, tables and their contents.
Do you support CGI/Perl scripts?
Yes, every site comes with its own CGI-BIN to allow you to run your own perl scripts.
Does AbacusHosting.ca provide web mail and how do I access it?
All sites are equipped with web based e-mail. This is all explained in your sign up letter.
Can I setup my pop3 and smtp accounts?
Yes, you will be able to send and receive e-mail from your domain name?
